Rep. Ron Estes (R-Kansas) recently penned an op-ed for FoxNews.com highlighting America's current fiscal challenges. In his article, Estes emphasized the importance of addressing the coinciding fiscal pandemics affecting both individual households and the federal government.

Estes stated, "More and more, Americans are living on borrowed time and money – and so is their government." He pointed out the need to break free from overspending and live within means to secure a better financial future for all. He echoed the words of James Madison, who once warned that "A public debt is a public curse."

The op-ed delves into the concerning statistics surrounding household debt, which reached a record high of $17.5 trillion. Estes noted the impact of inflation and the fear of a financial downturn on both individual households and the government. He highlighted the unsustainable trajectory of both personal spending and government debt, emphasizing the need for accountability and smart policies to restore fiscal health.

Estes also referenced the recent testimony of Director of the Congressional Budget Office, Dr. Phil Swagel, who highlighted the unsustainable fiscal path the country is on, particularly in terms of federal debt and deficits. The projections for budget deficits reaching $1.6 trillion in 2024 and climbing to $2.6 trillion by 2034 are alarming.

In response to these challenges, Estes outlined three key steps that Americans are looking for: the truth about the fiscal situation, a plan to address the debt burden, and political courage to tackle the issues head-on. He criticized the lack of progress in Congress in passing appropriations bills on time and expressed concerns about the upcoming FY2025 budget under President Biden.

Estes commended House Republicans on the Budget Committee for advancing a 10-year, balanced budget framework aimed at addressing the fiscal pandemics. The framework focuses on reducing debt, curbing excessive spending, and implementing pro-growth policies to unlock opportunities for all Americans.

As the nation grapples with growing debt and economic uncertainty, Estes reiterated the importance of implementing smart policies, being honest about fiscal challenges, and demonstrating political courage to secure a more stable financial future for all Americans.
